Youth Escort Policy

Effective May 20, 2022, the Chicago Park District has enacted the following Youth Escort Policy for Maggie Daley Park. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (21 years and older) after 6pm, Thursday through Sunday — and may be asked to present a valid ID. The adult must be present for the duration of the visit and may escort up to four young people.

Refund Policy

  • No Refunds unless MDP Skating Ribbon is Closed by Management
    • During the ticket purchase process please verify the dates, times and session type (With Skate Rental or Bring Your Own) for accuracy. Once a ticket is purchased all refund and transfer policies are in effect. The session dates, times and type are displayed throughout the transaction for review.
    • Skating Sessions that exceed 50% of the session time are deemed a completed session and no refunds will be granted after the half way mark.
    • Maggie Daley Park is an outdoor skating venue that is subjected to the elements of the Chicago Winter. Please review weather forecast prior to completing your ticket purchase.
    • Based upon current conditions MDP will make every effort to announce cancellations in advance of sessions. Cancellations will be posted to MDP website, all social media outlets and and via email based on time of cancellation. Please refer to the on-line and social media announcements as staff may not be able to receive calls if they are working on ice preparation.

MDP Skating Ribbon Closure Policy

  • MDP Skating Ribbon will be closed for the following:
    • On-Site Management deems the skating surface unsafe due to inclement weather or other circumstances that compromises the surface.
    • On-Site Management, under the direction of the Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, OEMC,DHS or other public safety agency deems the area unsafe for patrons, staff or guests.
    • Skating Sessions that exceed 50% of the session time are deemed a completed session and no refunds will be granted after the half way mark.

MDP Ticket Transfer Policy

  • MDP Skating Ribbon tickets may be transferred to another date or session time: A $3 Charge will be applied to all transferred tickets
    • Ticket Transfer requests must be made a minimum of 3 days in advance of the ticketed date.
    • Ticket Transfer dates must be transferred to a date a minimum of 1 day after the date of the original ticket (Ex: Ticket date Monday 12/12/22 ticket must be transferred to 12/13/22 or a date beyond).
    • Ticket Transfer requests must have your Ticket Confirmation Number and the Date and Session Time to be transferred to at the time of the request. Requests without the required transfer to date and session time will not be processed.
    • All Ticket Transfer requests must be made to skating@maggiedaleypark.com and include: 1. the order confirmation number. 2. The date and session time you want to transfer into. 3. The CVC # of the card used for original purchase. Must be summitted a minimum of 3 days in advance of originally ticketed date.

MDP Ticket Re-Sale or Gifted

  • Individuals may Gift or Re-Sell their tickets privately by providing the receiving party the confirmation email with the QR Code to present at Check-in. Each QR Code is unique and must be presented as your ticket at check in. There is no Transfer Fee for private transfers.

  • Friday – Sunday and Holiday Skate – Bring your Own Skates – Holiday Skate December 16 – January 8
    • Skate with your own skates – Free 11am session ONLY
    • Skate with your own skates – $5 + tax (2pm, 5pm & 8pm session)

Skate Aids (Penguins or Snowmen) – $10 + tax – per session – Available on site on a first come first served basis.

Lockers – Located inside the Fieldhouse

  • Small Locker – $3
  • Large Locker – $5

Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon Ticket Release Dates:

Tickets will be released on a rolling basis at 12:00pm (noon) on the below dates:

  • Monday, November 7 for tickets dated – November 18- December 11
  • Monday, November 21 for tickets dated – December 12 – January 8 (Includes Holiday Season)
  • Monday, December 19 for tickets dated – January 9 – January 22
  • Monday, January 9 for tickets dated – January 23 – February 5
  • Monday, January 23 for tickets dated – February 6 – February 20
  • Monday, February 6 for tickets dated – February 20 – March 5

General Information

  • If the ribbon is closed for any reason, the closure will be posted on our website and social media pages. If not posted CLOSED, please assume it is open.
  • The weather at Maggie Daley Park is closely monitored to determine unsafe ice-skating conditions. Please note we have chillers under the ice to keep the ribbon frozen
  • Holiday pricing includes Holidays and Holiday season (December 16th – January 8th) $20 on-line / $22 walkup + tax
  • Holidays: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day, MLK Day and Presidents Day – $20 on-line / $22 walkup + tax
  • Skates are available in child’s size 8 through men’s size 15 (our rental skates typically fit children age 5 and up)
  • Locker rental – standard lockers $3, large lockers $5 – 3-hour rental
  • Skate Aids (Penguins) available to assist you skate $10-per session are available on a first come served basis. We recommend arriving at the beginning of your session time and proceed to the rental counter in the Fieldhouse to rent your skate aid.
  • Skaters can check-in 30 minutes before the start of their scheduled session

  • There is not a group discount

Open 7 days a week: 

  • 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
  • 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Ice Resurfacing takes place between sessions and prior to opening.

  • Does Maggie Daley Park provide refunds for tickets purchased?
    • There are NO REFUNDS unless the MDP Skating Ribbon is closed by On-Site Management
  • Does Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon offer skate sharpening?
    • Skate sharpening is NOT available onsite
  • What size skates are available for rental?
    • Skate sizes available are child’s size 8 through men’s size 15, there are NO half sizes.
  • Are figure skates and hockey skates available for rental?
    • Figure and hockey skates are available. Figure skates run true to size, hockey skates run about 1 size bigger than your shoe size. If your skates do not fit you can exchange them for another size.
  • Are lockers available at Maggie Daley Park?
    • Lockers are available for rental, space is limited and unattended bags will be removed.
  • Are Skate Assist Sleds available?
    • Yes, skate assist sleds are available for use by skaters with physical disabilities and their companion skater based on availability.
  • Does Maggie Daley Park host private events?
  • For information on hosting a private holiday or winter skating event, click here.
  • Can I access the Ribbon without Skates?
    • NO, all patrons on the Ribbon Surface must have Skates in order to be allowed on the ice.

Skating Ribbon Rules & Regulations:

  • Pre-Purchase of tickets is strongly encouraged. If a session is sold out, there are no In-Person /On-Site Sales
  • All skaters must be ticketed and have a wristband
  • Skate carefully at all times
  • Follow the instructions of the skate assistants
  • Skate only in the direction currently being indicated by the skating assistants
  • Speed of skating at all times must equal the flow of all other skaters
  • Only people wearing skates are allowed on the ice surface

The following are not permitted on the ice:

  • Skating when ice resurfacing is being completed
  • Skating in a manner that endangers of interferes with the enjoyment experienced by other skaters
  • Stopping or standing on the ice
  • Horseplay, game playing, excessive speed, roughness or skating in a dangerous or potentially dangerous fashion
  • Carrying children or secondary items on the ice; handbags, backpacks, cameras, cell phones, portable music players, etc.
  • Jumps, spins, or skating backwards
  • Speed skates (racer blade skates)
  • Hockey playing
  • Eating or drinking
  • Throwing snowballs or other objects at any time
  • Sitting on or leaning over the railing
